This Sunday, in Rome, it will take place the IFL semifinal between the Panthers will meet the Marines
Parma, June 11, 2009 - The play-offs are knocking on the door: this Sunday, in Rome, the Parma Panthers will face the Lazio Marines in the IFL Semifinal. The winner will play the Italian Super Bowl.
The black and silver already met the Marines this season, in week 3, and lost 33-26 at home. It was a poor game for the Panthers, who played below their standard.
"But it was 2 months ago; a lot of things has been changed" - said Ivano Tira, the Parma Panthers president - "The Marines have an excellent roster and have been very lucky this year: they didn't suffer any serious injury. In addition they arrive to this game fresh, resty and with the home advantage".
The Panthers will need a great performance from their offensive unit, like 3 week ago in Bologna against the Warriors. "We need at least 5/6 touchdowns from our offense. Then our defense must be able to stop them at least a couple of times". Until now, the best weapon for the Panthers offense was WR Craig McIntyre, the main target for the passes of QB Joe Craddock, while the best defender was LB Ryan Tully.
"The only time we met the Marines in the play-offs, the game ended with a Panthers win." - added Tira - "It was the 2007: we won 17-14 in Rome and went to the Super Bowl".
The other semifinal will be played in Bolzano on Saturday, between the Bolzano Giants and the Bergamo Lions.
The game between the Panthers and the Marines can be followed live on this site.
